Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bars

I forget where I got this recipe from, but it has been a staple in my house every autumn for years.  If you like pumpkin and chocolate, then I bet you will make this several times this autumn.  It makes your house smell so good when you’re baking it.

Get out ingredients.

mix dry ingredients

Whisk flour, baking soda, pumpkin pie spice, and salt.

butter and sugar

Place sugar and butter in another bowl.

cream butter and sugar

Cream until smooth.

add egg and vanilla

Add egg and vanilla extract.

add pumpkin

Add pumpkin puree.

beat pumpkn in

Mix pumpkin in until smooth.

add dry ingredeints to wet

Slowly, mix in dry ingredients.

fold chocoate chips in

Fold in chocolate chips.

Spread batter evenly in a greased 9×13 dish and bake 35-40 minutes at 350 degrees.

take out of oven

Remove from oven and cool completely before cutting into squares.

Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Bars (24 bars)


2 cups all purpose flour
1 TBS Pumpkin Pie spice
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp salt
1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
1 1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup canned pumpkin puree
12 oz semisweet chocolate chips


Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Line bottom and sides of a 9×13″ dish with foil, leave over hang on sides.
In medium bowl, whisk flour, pie spice, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
Cream butter and sugar on medium-high until smooth.
Beat in egg and vanilla.
Beat in pumpkin puree.
Reduce speed to low and mix in dry ingredients.
Fold in chocolate chips.
Spread batter in pan.
Bake until edges begin to pull away from sides of pan and tooth pick comes out clean, about 35-40 minutes.
